Our Rome Recommendations
where to stay
We recommend the following neighborhoods to book your accommodation in Rome:
Historic Center:
Trastevere
Monti
Prati
what to do
Colosseum tours: either book ahead of time and buy your tickets to “skip the line” or book a small group tour. I loved Context Travel’s 4-hr Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Forum tour which was entertaining and informative.
Vatican tours: again, book your tickets ahead of time but I recommend a tour here because it’s so overwhelming. If you have the time, Context’s tour here is great, otherwise, the Early Access Sistine Chapel tour gets you in and out in 2 hours, before the museum even opens.
Other Museums: the Borghese Gallery is a fantastic museum to visit in Rome but you must buy and reserve your tickets a couple of months in advance. Palazzo Barberini is also lovely, as is Palazzo Farnese (the French Embassy) which is open only on Wednesdays.
Market: I love the Testaccio Market (we visit it on one of our tours) and I highly recommend heading there to try a few different Roman street foods (Mordi e Vai panini, CasaManco pizza, Altro pasta) and see their vintage/handmade goods. Open Mon-Sat, 10 am-2 pm.
Take a food tour! I won’t be giving tours this week but we are still running them! You can book and get 10% with ABBIE as a discount code.
